Heaven 17
Biographie:
Heaven 17 ist eine britische Elektropop-Band.
Heaven 17 wurde Anfang der 1980er Jahre in Sheffield (Großbritannien) gegründet. Ihr Name stammt aus Anthony Burgess’ Buch A Clockwork Orange, in dem eine fiktive Pop-Gruppe gleichen Namens vorkommt. Mitglieder waren Ian Craig Marsh und Martyn Ware nach ihrer Trennung von The Human League. Der Sänger Glenn Gregory vervollständigte die Formation.
Wie auch The Human League setzte Heaven 17 als Instrumente vornehmlich Synthesizer und Drumcomputer ein. Die Band hatte einige kleinere Erfolge wie zum Beispiel At the Height of the Fighting (He-La-Hu) vom Album Penthouse and Pavement. Aufmerksamkeit erregte das Stück (We don’t need this) Fascist Groove Thing, da es schnell zur Hymne linker Gruppierungen wurde und wegen des sehr politischen Textes in England von der BBC boykottiert wurde.
Ihren größten Treffer landete die Band 1983 mit dem Song Temptation von der LP The Luxury Gap. Die späteren Produktionen waren von einer stärkeren Orientierung zu herkömmlichen Instrumenten und Anlehnungen an den Phillysound geprägt. Während die Kritiker dem Trio stets positiv gesinnt waren, verkauften sich die Heaven-17-LPs ab 1984 nur noch schleppend.
Ian Craig Marsh und Martyn Ware waren unter anderen an den Erfolgen von Tina Turner, Terence Trend D'Arby und The Hot Gossip beteiligt, wo sie als Produzenten (B.E.F.) und Songtexter auftraten. Glenn Gregory hat zusammen mit ABC's Martin Fry dessen CD "Skyscraping" produziert und eingespielt. Ebenso verlieh er vielen Projekten seine Stimme, wie z.B. dem Song "Don't stop the Music" von GOLDPEOPLE oder dem Duett mit Claudia Brücken (Ex-Propaganda Mitglied).

Mit Heaven 17 folgt eine weitere Gruppe aus den 80ern dem Promsruf. Heaven 17 sind eigentlich nur mit zwei Liedern wirklich bekannt. Ihr Meilenstein `Temptation´ und dem Charthit `Trouble´. Zudem verkaufte sich das Album `Penthouse and Pavement ´ sehr gut in Deutschland.
In Belgien und den Niederlanden ist die Gruppe hingegen fast unbekannt...
Es ist zu hoffen, dass die Gruppe ihre o.g. Hits spielt und nicht, wie 2007 Soulsister, mit neuen oder teilweise unbekannten Werken zu glänzen versucht.
