Biographie:

Alison Moyet (* 18. Juni 1961 in Billericay, Essex, England) ist eine britische Pop-Sängerin, die vor allem in den Achtzigern in Großbritannien erfolgreich war. Ihre ausdrucksstarke und unverwechselbare Blues-Stimme und ihre außerordentliche musikalische Bandbreite die über Punk-Rock, anspruchsvollen Pop, Chanson und Blues reicht, kennzeichnen ihr Werk.

Mit der Erfahrung als Sängerin in verschiedenen unbekannten Punk- und Bluesbands suchte Moyet anfang der 1980er-Jahre per Zeitungsinserat Partner zur Gründung eines eigenen Projekts. Hier stieß der Ex-Depeche Mode-Keyboarder Vince Clarke auf Moyet. Gemeinsam gründeten sie das Synthie-Pop-Projekt Yazoo. Ihre Debütsingle `Only You´ erreichte auf Anhieb Platz 2 der UK-Charts.

Für den amerikanischen Markt erfolgte dann eine Namensänderung in Yaz. Mit den beiden Alben Upstairs At Eric's und You And Me Both hatte das Duo jedoch hauptsächlich in Europa Erfolg. Bereits 1983 trennten sich Yazoo aufgrund unterschiedlicher musikalischer Auffassungen. Clarke rief zunächst The Assembly, dann Erasure ins Leben; Alison Moyet startete ihre Solo-Karriere.

Mit ihrer leidenschaftlichen, souligen Alt-Stimme, produziert in gefälligem Popsound, konnte die Mittzwanzigerin zunächst an die Yazoo Erfolge anknüpfen. Ihr erstes, nach ihrem früheren Spitznamen benannte Album Alf (1984) hielt sich ein ganzes Jahr in den britischen Charts und erklomm dort die Spitzenposition. Die ersten drei ausgekoppelten Singles wurden allesamt UK-Top 10-Hits. Erst Ende 1985 erreichte die vierte Single For You Only in Deutschland einen siebten Platz und damit Moyets höchste Platzierung in den deutschen Charts.

Nach der Geburt einer Tochter und der Scheidung vom Ehemann wurde ihr Duett mit Paul Young im Juli 1985 beim legendären Live Aid-Festival im Londoner Wembley-Stadion eines der letzten musikalischen Lebenszeichen der Künstlerin. Moyet zog sich ins Private zurück...

Moyet hat sich inzwischen vornehmlich auf anspruchsvolle Balladen in verschiedenen Stilrichtungen verlegt. Ihr aktuelles Album enthält unter anderem Songs, welche sie für das Theaterstück Smaller schrieb. Dort übernahm sie selbst eine Rolle an der Seite von Dawn French und June Watson.

Ende Mai 2008 ging Alison im Rahmen der Reconnected-Tournee zum ersten Mal seit 25 Jahren wieder gemeinsam mit Vince Clarke als Yazoo auf die Bühne.

Die Musik von Alison Moyet passt sehr gut zur Night of the Proms. Werke wie `All cried out´ lassen Gänsehaut erahnen.

Zu hoffen ist nur, das Sie zwei Werke aus der erfolgreichen Yazoo- Zeit aufspielt. Dann könnte auch die wert- und druckvolle Sample-Maschine wieder angeschmissen werden...

Alison Moyet ist ein Traum-Act - aber eigentlich kein Top Act für Antwerpen oder Deutschland...

"All Cried Out" is a pop song written by English singer-songwriter Alison Moyet, and producers Jolley & Swain for Moyet's debut studio album Alf (1984). Released as the album's second single in fall 1984 (see 1984 in music), the track peaked within the top 10 on both the Irish and the UK Singles Chart, also reaching the top 20 in Switzerland.

In 2002, it was re-recorded and released as a single by German pop band No Angels. A year later the song was also covered by German electro-industrial act Wumpscut on their 2003 studio album Preferential Legacy. In 2006, English singer/songwriter Fink (music) reworked the song for his acoustic soul album Biscuits For Breakfast.
